GOING FOR THE GOLD

Because success is so often measured by money, it is refreshing when the world pauses to recognize pure excellence, for it’s own sake.
As thousands gather in Sydney, athletes who have trained hard and long hope to be recognized as being “best”.  Winning the gold medal is the trophy of achievement.  While only a few will receive this honor, it neither negates nor diminishes the efforts and sense of accomplishment from all who do their personal best.  Being a competitor in the Olympics will remain a part of their identity, all through life.

Watching the Olympic events, even from afar, emotes an emotional response from many people, not the least of which is national pride.  We sometimes find ourselves in awe of their achievements, but always respecting the discipline, tenacity, skills, focus, and winning attitude.

Most of us know that we don’t have what it takes to compete in the Olympics.  Yet there is a desire deep within all of us that wants to be our personal best at what is important to us.  For some people, that translates to developing potential or becoming the kind of person you want to be, while for others, it means fulfilling the relationship or career goals of your dreams.  For yet others, it means being a part of an organization or group that will make a difference.  But the ‘stuff of life’ often gets in the way, causing us to lose our focus, divert our attention and rob our time, so we go to our graves never being or doing all that was possible for us.  In I Cor 9:26 Paul looks at life in the perspective of a race, saying “…I do not run like a man running aimlessly.”

No Olympian would be competing in Sydney without the structure, support, challenge and the belief of his or her own Coach, who holds the vision and provides focus, perspective and encouragement while expecting the best.

The coaching components when applied to Olympians, clearly illuminates the reason why so many people are finding so much value in working with a Life Coach.  Consider what you can accomplish!    JS

Key Questions

* Would this/these accomplishments honor your values and honor God?
* What's getting in the way for you to move forward and go for the gold?
* How will it feel when you have achieved what you want to do, or become who you want to become?
